Dealing with Our Fruit and Vegetable Wastes

Visit the market in your neighborhood and note how many kinds of vegetables, fruits and leafy vegetables are brought there. Among the different vegetables sold there find out how many get spoiled during transportation and also find out which are the vegetables that cannot be stored for longer periods. Find out what they are doing with all the spoiled vegetables. What are the different vegetables that are available in different seasons? Prepare a chart showing the different vegetables. Fruits, vegetables, leafy vegetables and other organic foods are biodegradable and hence they can be converted into vermicompost. These fruits, vegetables and fruit wastes can be converted into compost manure by using earthworms. The left over food from our kitchen can also be converted into vermicompost. The fruit vegetable markets, fruit markets and Rythu bazaars nearby should be visited and the people managing these market yards should be convinced to utilise the leftover vegetables and fruits converting it into compost with help of earthworms. The farmers frequenting these markets should be encouraged to buy such compost for use in their fields. With the help of these composts, fruits and vegetables should be grown in an ecofriendly manner, raising their quality and quantity.
