Happily… Joyfully
The sweet memories of the moonlit nights…sitting under the shade of trees on a string cot… listening to stories with the head on grandmother’s lap - these are the memories which remain with us throughout our lives. As children we looked forward to the time spent after dinner.
As the story was narrated, each of us slipped into a private world of imagination. The stories were not merely for pastime but helped in personality development too. But times have changed now. No one has the time and energy to tell stories. Even if children ask their parents to tell a story, the present day parent’s are unable to get to the level of the children and tell them. They neither have the knack nor the time to tell a story. Against this backdrop, this ‘ ant….oh ant….why did you bite is an effort to bring forth a collection of stories related to the environment.
Almost all the stories are known to us since childhood. The authors of some stories are not known. Some of the stories are from the internet and few forwarded through chain emails.
These age-old stories have values relating to biodiversity, importance of environment and conservation. Analyses of these values in the stories are expected to en rich and create interest regarding the environment among children. After telling the story, some space has been devoted to address the children with regard to the characters and situations in the story and for discussion. This is expected to yield good benefit and above all make learning a joyful experience.
